Just finished this Eternamatic automatic gents wrist watch. It had a full service on the movement and a new glass, just to freshen it up. The watch is about 50 years old, so hopefully it'll go for another 50! Such is the importance of a full service on your watches, to ensure the longevity of your precious items.

Eternamatic watches, known for their innovative automatic movement with ball bearings, emerged in 1948, revolutionizing self-winding technology and becoming a hallmark of the Eterna brand, which itself traces its roots back to 1856.
Early History and Founding:
In 1856, Dr. Joseph Girard and Urs Schild, a young school teacher, established the "Dr. Girard & Schild" company in Grenchen, Switzerland, focusing on producing watch movements (ébauches).
The company initially specialized in both semi-finished and fully finished movements, laying the groundwork for Eterna's future as a watch manufacturer.
After Schild's passing, his sons took over, and the company grew, eventually employing over 300 workers and producing 180 timepieces daily.
The Birth of Eterna-Matic:
In 1948, Eterna introduced the Eterna-Matic, a groundbreaking automatic movement featuring a rotor system mounted on wheel bearings.
This innovative design, using five strategically placed ball bearings, significantly reduced friction and wear on the oscillating weight, improving the accuracy and longevity of the watch.
The Eterna-Matic movement became a defining feature of the brand, and the image of the five balls was adopted as the Eterna corporate logo.
The Eterna-Matic also made it possible for smaller, women's watches to have automatic winding movements.
Eterna's Legacy and Continued Innovation:
Eterna continued to innovate, developing the "Spherodrive" in 2009, further highlighting the importance of ball bearings in mechanical watchmaking.
The brand is known for its commitment to Swiss watchmaking tradition and a spirit of innovation.
Eterna's workshops in Grenchen have consistently enriched and revolutionized the art of watchmaking.
In recent years, Eterna has been acquired by Citychamp Watch & Jewellery Group Ltd, and continues to produce watches with in-house developed and manufactured movements.
Eterna's current collections reflect the brand's respect for tradition, alongside its commitment to pioneering new designs and movement technologies.
